BROOKINGS, S.D. – South Dakota State Athletics and its multimedia rightsholder, Learfield’s Jackrabbit Sports Properties, announced today that 570 WNAX will continue as the Jacks’ radio flagship for the next five years.

In the extended term, Saga Communications-owned WNAX will carry live football and men’s and women’s basketball game action, as well as the seasonal coaches’ shows and Jackrabbit Daily Sports Update, on both its 570 AM and 99.9 FM stations. WNAX, which features one of the strongest signals in the upper midwest, has aired SDSU events since the 1950s. It has been the flagship of Jackrabbit football and men’s basketball continuously since 1991, and added women’s basketball in 2009.

“We appreciate the longstanding partnership we have had with South Dakota State University and now Learfield,” said WNAX Radio President and General Manager Bill Holst. “Our relationship with SDSU and broadcasting Jackrabbit sports spans over 50 years, and with this agreement, we guarantee that will continue years into the future.”

Fall coverage on the Jackrabbit Sports Network debuts August 28 with the John Stiegelmeier Radio Show. It will air every Monday night at 6 p.m. CT from Cubby’s Sports Bar & Grill in Brookings. The Jackrabbit Daily Sports Update also premieres Monday throughout the network. The football season kicks off Thursday, August 31, when the Jacks host Duquesne. Pre-game coverage will start at 6 p.m. CT.

“WNAX has been an exceptional radio partner, and it’s important to us to ensure athletics programming is delivered to fans in the utmost quality,” said Jackrabbit Sports Properties General Manager Matt Wright. “Bill and his team at the station have done an incredible job for us over the years, and we believe Jacks’ fans will be thrilled they know they won’t have to change the dial to find their favorite team.”

Holst added, “With the Ag broadcasting heritage of WNAX, and the partnership with SDSU, the premier land grant university in the region, we both can continue to reach our core supporters.” WNAX Radio celebrates 95 years of broadcasting across the northern plains this year.
